One week In-person Orientation
Summary
Our week-long Immersive Orientation is designed to give international students the knowledge, confidence, and community they need from day one, so they start their new chapter not just informed, but connected.
What you get
Arrival Welcome: Students are met by Kinara staff and peer mentors at campus welcome center. Luggage drop-off assistance and early introductions help students settle in quickly.
Practical Sessions: Step-by-step workshops on everyday life in the U.S. banking, healthcare systems, phone plans, transportation, academic expectations, and essential safety tips. Delivered by a mix of Kinara trainers, local service providers, and university representatives.
Cultural Integration: Interactive sessions on cultural norms, classroom etiquette, social expectations, and “hidden rules” of American life, paired with role-playing exercises, Q&A, and real-world scenarios.
Community Building: Icebreakers, small-group dinners, and themed social events. Affinity meetups for shared languages, cultures, and interests. Introductions to peer mentors, alumni, and student leaders to form an immediate support network.
Why it matters
The first week on campus is often the most overwhelming. Without relevant and culturally attuned on-boarding, students struggle silently, impacting their confidence, academic performance, and likelihood to stay. A well-structured orientation ensures students know what to do, who to go to, and how to thrive.
How it works
Location: Delivered on campus, at a nearby partner venue, or as a multi-school regional orientation hosted in a hotel/conference space.
Structure: Five days of targeted workshops and activities, plus one day of city navigation and one day for community immersion (museum visits, local festivals, cultural exchanges).
Integration: Orientation content is adapted to each partner institution’s policies, resources, and location. Multi-school models include mixed activities for networking and breakout sessions for school-specific information.
Follow-Up: Each student leaves with a draft Kinara Connection Plan ready for their 90-Day Acclimation phase.
